Flonase Overview
Nasal Spray Allergy Treatment
Flonase is approved to treat nasal symptoms associated with indoor and outdoor allergies, plus non-allergic nasal symptoms. It is a water-based, prescription nasal spray medication that helps reduce the inflammation that leads to sneezing, congestion, itching and runny nose symptoms.
Flonase is not habit forming like some non-prescription nasal sprays and it offers 24 hour relief for nasal symptoms. Flonase can be used with children as young as 4 years old. It belongs to a class of nasal medications called intranasal corticosteroids that reduce inflammation, which reduces the nasal passages response to allergens. Intranasal corticosteroids are similar to cortisol, which your body produces naturally.
Ask your health care professional if Flonase is right for you. Flonase should be used daily for best results. The recommended starting dosage is one spray per nostril once per day. Nasal symptoms may begin to improve in as little as 12 hours. Maximum relief may take several days. Side effects, if any, may include headaches, sore throat or nosebleed.
