Prevacid (lansoprazole) is an anti-acid medication which is commonly used to treat patients who suffer from acid reflux, persistent heartburn and/or stomach ulcers.
Heartburn is caused by the overproduction of acid in the stomach, which can then backup the lower end of the esophagus and cause the common symptoms that are associated with heartburn.

Only take this drug as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Take each tablet with a full glass of water. Avoid crushing or chewing the tablets, they are coated with a special time-release coating so they can be absorbed slowly in your system. If you miss a dose take it at the first chance that you get, and keep taking your other doses on schedule.
This drug is a PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitor) and works by reducing the amount of acid that the stomach produces.
It is important that you inform your medical practitioner of all the drugs that you are taking. Make sure you let your doctor know if you are taking any of the following drugs: (Nizoral), ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen), digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), and iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron), as they may have reduced effectiveness when taken with this drug. Women who are pregnant or nursing should make sure that they inform their doctor of this. Those who suffer from liver disease may not be able to take Prevacid.
